If you're local to us, you don't need to buy a worm count kit. You can collect a sample yourself and either drop it off at our laboratory or use our local collection service.
What you'll need
You only need:
- A clean disposable glove
- A small, clean sandwich bag or food bag
- A pen to write your horse's name
How to collect the sample
- Wait until your horse has passed a fresh pile of droppings.
- Take small pieces from 4 or 5 different areas of the pile. This gives the most representative sample.
- Place the sample into the bag and squeeze out as much air as possible before sealing it.
- Write your horse's name on the bag.
We only need around 4 grams of faeces for testing, which is roughly the size of a grape or a heaped teaspoon. There's no need to fill the bag a small sample is all that's required.
Before you bring it to us
Keep the sample cool until you can get it to us. A fridge is ideal, but please don't freeze it. If you don't have a suitable fridge please keep samples in a cool place.
Drop off or collection
You can either:
- Drop your sample off directly at our laboratory.
- Book our local collection service if you're in our collection area.
Results are usually returned within 24 hours of us receiving your sample, complete with easy to understand recommendations.
